She began to play the musical instrument guzheng when she was a child. She took lessons under the famous guzheng teacher professor Sun Wenyan and He Baoquan. In the eighties, with her refined performing skills and exquisite artistic presentation, Lei Gu performed the famous ancient guzheng music pieces “Qin Sang Melody” and “Harvest’s Drums and Cymbals” which won her the first place in the Shanghai Traditional Musical Instruments in the guzheng category. Currently Lei Gu gives private lessons, as well as teaches guzheng classes at the NOVA Music & Art Academy and the Greater Metropolitan Washington Chinese community area schools.
